Heston Blumenthal’s Crown at Bray, which he took over in 2010, has been sensitively refurbished inside and out, to ensure the maximum comfort for guests drinking and dining.
The majority of the Crown’s life has been spent as a pub, apart from when it was a bicycle shop for a brief time.
The gastropub started life as two cottages in the 16th Century as a hostelry, which supplied beer to cottages in the area.
It has also been rumoured that, back in the day, Charles II would often call in for a drink when visiting his mistress Nell Gwynn.
While the history of Heston’s the Crown at Bray dates back centuries, the food does not and comes with all the pizazz one might expect from a Heston Blumenthal venue.
For starters you can try cauliflower soup with a cheese crumble; Cornish mussels with garlic, apple cider and parsley; and confit potted rabbit, cornichons and chargrilled bread, to name just a few.
Mains include confit of duck leg with mash, braised red cabbage and blackberry sauce; chargrilled Irish black Angus bavette steak and marrowbone sauce with fries; and roasted fillet of stone bass with spinach, tomato, shallot and rocket.
Ales from Courage and Caledonian, among others, are pulled at the bar. There are 18 wines by the glass and several to choose from by the half-bottle. Dessert wines also come by the glass, so why not have one to accompany your dessert?
Champagne Drappier Carte d’Or, Brut NV France and Ca’del Console Prosecco, Extra Brut NV Italy, are offered by the glass too.
