The Hovingham Inn

The Hovingham Inn has now sadly closed its doors, but you can still read all about why it made it onto the list below.

The pair have an extensive history working in some of the greatest hospitality venues across Yorkshire, creating a big name for themselves over time.

The Johns continue to renovate the pub, but have so far created a venue that is warm and welcoming, as well as being the perfect setting for one of the best culinary experiences a diner can have in the region.

They focus on modern British classics, a move that landed them on the Top 100 Gastropubs list in 2021 before joining the Top 50 this year.

Previous dishes to star on this inn’s menu have included roast butternut squash soup with truffle, parmesan and brioche croutons; warm cider braised onion with bacon and parmesan tart; and treacle cured Gleanarm salmon with apple, pomegranate, watermelon and chive oil dressing.

Other dishes have included homemade Cornish style pasty with honey roast carrot, greens and beef gravy; handmade saag aloo pie, with warm chickpea, roast red pepper, herb and spinach; and roast free-range chicken supreme with parmesan and tomato salad and chips.

There is also usually a supper menu on offer with a small, but perfectly formed, selection of dishes for starters, mains and pudding.

The pub also recommends a variety of luxury accommodation in the local area for guests wishing to extend their stay beyond a meal and some drinks.
