The White Horse in north Norfolk sits in the middle of the marshland with a spectacular view of the Brancaster Staithe coastline.
For those who fall in love with the surroundings – and who wouldn’t? – the pub also has 15 rooms to stay in should you want to bask in the scenery for longer than a lazy afternoon lunch.
Of course, being situated next to the coastline and marshlands brings more benefits than a stunning view and is something of a local larder.
Such fantastic ingredients are coveted by head chef Fran Hartshorne, who has worked in the White Horse’s kitchen since 2005.
On the pub’s website she says: “’I feel I’m the luckiest chef on the Norfolk coast, creating in a kitchen that faces out across the stunning tidal marsh, it can’t get much better.”
There are a range of menus at the White Horse, including breakfast, a bar menu and the restaurant à la carte.
From the à la carte, you can expect to find starters including Tom Larges Brancaster mussels in white wine, celery, thyme, garlic cream and served with warm ciabatta; Brancaster oysters served natural or in tempura and cam be bought individually or by the dozen; and chicken liver parfait with girolles, thyme and walnut crisp.
Mains have included baked whole plaice with brown shrimp, new potatoes and greens; miso heritage carrots with aubergine, whipped feta and seeds; and Staithe Smokehouse smoked haddock with mashed potatoes, spinach, poached egg and cockle hollandaise.
There’s also always a tempting selection of desserts to chose from to round off your meal, with the likes of lemon tart with blood orange granita; pecan pie with blueberry ice cream; and passion fruit mousse with a chocolate raspberry viola.
