Led by the well-known Gary Usher, owner of the award-winning Sticky Walnut among others, the White Horse was a closed pub when Elite Bistros took it over in 2022.
The company has a reputation for attracting strong support from loyal customers and the White Horse was no exception - a Kickstarter fund launched to help with the renovations smashed the target of £200,000 in just 24 hours.
Renovation work even saw the local community mucking in, lending tools and expertise, and even helping to feed and water Usher and his team.
Since then, the pub has gone from strength to strength, embedding itself at the heart of the local community while offering food to die for.
The pub is situated east of the River Dee, a natural border between England and Wales and the local area is popular amongst walking groups, cyclists and horse riders.
The White Horse serves uncomplicated, unpretentious and delicious food. The seasonal menu features comforting bistro dishes as well as Elite Bistro classic such as its Crème Brûlée.
One of the initiatives that has helped put the pub on the map has been its guest chef series, which has seen top chefs from across the UK takeover the pubs kitchen for an evening of food heaven.
Guest chefs have included other operators on the Top 50 Gastropub list, such as Stosie Madi of the Parkers Arms and Tom Kerridge, all the way through to the likes of Simon Rimmer and Angela Hartnett, creating huge excitement amongst pub regulars.
Usher and his team have done a fantastic job of taking a closed and shuttered community pub and carving out a gastropub that not only serves great food but offers a hub for the village it serves.
