Top 10 pubs to visit on Platinum Jubilee weekend

There’s no shortage of parties to pick from for next week’s Platinum Jubilee, with pubs pulling out all the stops after two years of pandemic-induced closure and dulled community spirits.

Needless to say, the UK public are spoilt for choice, but is there too much of a good thing? Here at Top50, we sympathise with the struggle to choose just one event from the tirade of parties, picnics, concerts, meals, and BBQs taking place.

That’s why we’ve decided to make your life easier and have curated a list of the top 10 Jubilee events happening at pubs across the country next bank holiday weekend (Thursday 2 to Sunday 5 June).

1. The Blue Boar, Westminster, central London

Westminster’s the Blue Boar pub is pulling out all the stops for the big weekend. Celebrations kick off on Wednesday 1 June, where guests will be greeted by a 6ft ‘beefeater bear’ when entering the bunting-bedecked pub to enjoy Jubilee-themed cocktails.

On the Thursday 2 and Friday 3 June, expect a party, with house musician Sean Ahern playing a selection of classic British tunes.

Furthermore, on Sunday 5, come to the pub to rewind over a Jubilee Sunday Lunch with ‘extra pomp and ceremony’, according to the site’s Instagram.

The unique drinks, which include gin-based cocktail the Kings Peach and royal spin on a classic Pimms, St James Summer Cup, will be served at the central London gastropub throughout June.

 

2. The Guinea Grill, Mayfair, central London

Celebrations in the capital will truly be in full swing for the Jubilee. A jazz band will take to the floor at the Guinea Grill in Mayfair, central London on Saturday afternoon.

What’s more, coronation chicken pate en croute will be served at the bar, and coronation suet crusted chicken pie will be served in the restaurant throughout the special weekend.

3. The Bailiwick, Egham, Surrey

Expect a weekend of fun at the Bailiwick in Egham, Surrey, which will be hosting an outside BBQ on Friday 3 June to start their weekend of celebrations. Freshly cooked pizzas, local produce and an outdoor bar are promised by the pub.

You can also test out your knowledge of Britain’s royal history at the Bailiwick’s Jubilee pub quiz on the Sunday, while sampling dishes from the gastropub’s Platinum Jubilee tasting menu. Curated by chef patron Steven Ellis, the menu features coronation chicken terrine and Windsor great park rabbit.

4. The Loch & The Tyne, Old Windsor, Berkshire

Celebrate in style at the Loch & Tyne in Old Windsor, Berkshire, which is offering to chauffer guests to and from the venue in a classic car. There’s even an option to choose the Rolls-Royce which drove King George VI himself.

The fun doesn’t stop there, with a Jubilee party kicking off at 4pm on the Sunday. Guests can expect live music from acoustic duo Charli and Mark, a BBQ serving British burgers and hotdogs as well as coronation rolls with your choice of chicken or crayfish.

In true royal style, English sparkling wines will be available by the glass, offered to toast to her Majesty’s 70-year reign.

There’s something for all the family at the Loch & Tyne. As the sun sets, there will be a fire pit lit on the terrace, with marshmallows available for children to roast while adults enjoy an exclusive cocktail, ‘Tea with the Queen’, made using Tanqueray gin, honey and earl grey.


5. The Plough, Coton, south Cambridgeshire

Art lovers should head to the Plough in Coton, south Cambridgeshire, which is putting on an exhibition of Queen portraits from a local art gallery. Visitors can enjoy the artwork with special cocktails in hand, with the pub chef also designing special dishes for the festivities.

6. The Three Hills, Bartlow, Cambridgeshire

Those visiting Bartlow-based gastropub the Three Hills are in for a magical weekend. The team at the pub in Cambridgeshire will be hosting an ‘Enchanted Cinema’ showing Grease and Mamma Mia on the Wednesday and Thursday, which guests can watch with homemade artisan pizza in hand.

What’s more, a Jubilee family BBQ will take place on the Friday complete with a silver band and 50s music, with a traditional Sunday lunch running on the Sunday.

 

7. The Parkers Arms, Clitheroe, Lancashire

Head to the Parkers Arms in Clitheroe, Lancashire for a delicious Jubilee-inspired menu. This will include a HM Jubilee pie complete with shellfish as well as a fish pie encased in a crisp light puff crust and sauced with shell fish bisque.

There will also be a curried chicken terrine on offer at the pub filled with quail eggs on the starter menu, which is a nostalgic nod to coronation chicken, and strawberries to finish. The dishes will be part of the pub’s seasonal a la carte menu.

 

8. The Bull & Last, Highgate, north London

Festivities at the Bull & Last in Highgate, north London will include summer food as well as drinks including house-made juices and cocktails. The soft serve ice cream machine will also be running for takeaways for those looking to bring a taste of summer to celebrations on Hampstead Heath.

 

9. The Cornish Arms, Tavistock, Devon

Party at the Cornish Arms in Tavistock, Devon where the beer garden will be open on Friday 3 and Saturday 4 June.

The pub’s airstream kitchen will be open, serving street food style dishes, and partygoers can crack open ice-cold beers from the garden bar while enjoying live music.

10. The Cross, Kenilworth, Warwickshire

Foodies should make a trip to the Cross at Kenilworth, Warwickshire, where chef director Adam Bennett has curated a special Platinum Jubilee tasting menu for the historic weekend.

At £95 per head, the menu includes consommé royale ‘Welsh Gold’ leeks with spring herbs and gold leaf, as well as the Cross coronation chicken salad.

There is also a roast saddle of Cornish lamb available complete with seaweed buttered Jersey royals, peas, lettuce and minted lamb jus, and for dessert, customers can enjoy a dark chocolate tart served with cherries Jubilee and Jersey milk ice cream.
