The Standard Inn

Portscatho, Cornwall

Perched high above the Roseland peninsula in Cornwall’s fishing village of Portscatho, The Standard Inn is a destination pub with far reaching views and a quietly confident food offering shaped by its coastal setting.

The pub is founded and led by Simon Stallard who is also the creator of sister site The Hidden Hut. The same instinctive, produce first approach underpins the kitchen here, with menus that change regularly according to availability and season.

Cooking is led by wood fire, bringing depth and warmth to dishes that are simple, generous and grounded in place. Seafood plays a central role, alongside carefully handled meat and vegetables, with plates designed to let high quality ingredients speak for themselves.

Menu highlights include day boat fish with shellfish, caper and samphire, wood roasted chicken with mustard and tarragon, and grilled bass with red pepper, caper and basil.

Desserts remain unfussy and well judged, with vanilla cheesecake with macerated strawberry a recurring favourite.

The result is a pub firmly rooted in its landscape, delivering food of clarity and confidence from a team with a clear point of view.
