The Bridge Inn

On the banks of The Union Canal, just seven miles outside of Edinburgh, the Bridge Inn Ratho sits at the heart of a quaint village.

If it’s fine food, delivered to a refined and high standard you’re looking for, then the Bridge Inn is the perfect gastropub for you.

There are fine views to be taken in from the pub’s garden, where you can sit with a drink (or dish) and watch the lazy canal boats gently chug up and down the waterway.

If you’re looking to make a holiday of your visit to the area, then the pub has four beautifully put together rooms for guests to spend a night or two in.

As with all great gastropubs, local produce is central to the Bridge Inn’s offer, as the pub’s website states: “The Bridge Inn is a community pub in the heart of the village.

“We pride ourselves in producing delicious, locally sourced food, including our own homegrown veg and our own  bred pork.

“We delight in discovering delicious and interesting ales from around Scotland, alongside creating a wine list of elegant wines to suit all tastes.”

Fancy something extra special? Then the pub has its own private dining area for special occasions and the garden can also be hired.

Dishes you can expect to see on the menu include: Cullen skink, smoked haddock with leeks, potato and cream; pan seared scallops, pea veloutè with pea shoots and crispy smoked pork crumb; and beetroot cured gravlax with hot smoked salmon, cucumber two ways, dill, crème fraîche and crisp bread to start.

For mains, dishes could include: homemade Scotch Beef burger on a toasted briôche bun with mayonnaise, tomato, skinny fires and pickle; slow braised ox cheek with roast carrot and ginger purée, heritage carrot, mashed potato, bitter onion, kale and jus; and truffled macaroni with strong white cheddar, clava brie glaze, served with skinny fries and a house salad.

For those with a sweet tooth, expect desserts the likes of: dark chocolate brownie with blood orange gel, chocolate soil, orange pastille and marmalade ice cream; cream rice pudding with forced rhubarb; and stick toffee pudding with brandy caramel sauce.
